I stopped at the store... cuz I was out of gin... and I was a penny short... They had that little bowl that's like "Take a penny, Leave a penny." Which is really nice if you need some help. (On Rodeo Drive they have a bowl full of $20s) I think it's handy but I never use it because I see it as a bowl full of germs. They should call it "Take a flu, Leave a flu." The pennies... I never save them... but if I'm going through my change and one drops on the street.... I never pick it up... but pennies add up. I was reading in the paper... or someone was reading it to me... and there was this guy in Ohio who had been saving his pennies for like 34 years and he had $11,000. He just kept piling millions and millions of pennies into a jar over the years. Pennies for sure I don't keep.... even change really... the only change I have is what I keep in my car for parking meters or toll plazas... or sometimes to help me get out of a ticket. "Here's my drivers license and what's this, Officer.. and oh what's this seventy-five cents..." The guy had to take them to the CoinStar machine because his bank wouldn't take the change. Remember when banks would do that? You would put your change into the big machine and they would count it up and roll it for you... you could have a cigarette while you waited... they used to have ashtrays at every window... Have you heard that they want to get rid of pennies? And by they, I mean Penny Marshall. But at first I thought it was a good idea and now, I mean, what's next? First the penny... then the nickel... and then the dime? I love the dime... it's so underrated... it's small and cute... doesn't make a loud sound in the dryer... maybe we should think this thing through. If we get rid of the penny, then what happens to the 99 cent stores? Plus we'd have to get rid of some of our sayings... like "A penny for your thoughts..." It would be "A nickel for your thoughts..." and who wants to hear that much of anybodys thoughts anyway?
